Subject: Call for Nominations for the 2008 World of Children Awards

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to inform you about the Call for Nominations for the 2008 World of Children Awards.  It has been a wonderful opportunity for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to collaborate with its founders, Harry and Kay Leibowitz, over the last six years.   Knowing of your steadfast commitment to global children's grassroots initiatives, I wanted to alert you to these awards in the hopes of expanding the pool of nominations from the global community and in particular from Asia, Africa and Latin America  Please note that the deadline for nominations is WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2008.

World of Children, Inc.  (WOC), which bestows the awards annually, is a U.S.-based organization located in California.  WOC seeks to identify individuals across the globe who have gone beyond the normal boundaries of their work to advance the rights and well being of children.  By honoring children's advocates, WOC hopes to bring them, their work and their organizations to the forefront of international acclaim and attention.

Created in 1998, WOC has since grown to encompass three distinct awards:

1.     Health Award - recognizes an individual who has made a significant lifetime contribution to children in the fields of health, medicine or the sciences. This person will have created, managed or otherwise supported one or more sustainable programs that have significantly contributed to the health and well-being of children.  The individual's work on behalf of children must be over and above their normal employment and they must have been doing this (or related) work for a minimum of 10 years.

2.     Humanitarian Award - recognizes an individual who has made a significant lifetime contribution to children in the areas of social services, education or humanitarian services. This person will have created, managed or otherwise supported one or more sustainable programs that have significantly contributed to children's opportunities to be safe, to learn and to grow.  The individual's work on behalf of children must be over and above their normal employment and they must have been doing this (or related) work for a minimum of 10 years.
