Scholarships


The GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs offers the following five scholarships. The requirements for each vary. The application deadline for all is the same. Check each scholarship's information page for qualification and application details.

The scholarships are administered by a single rotating Board of Trustees. Each district selects one Trustee to serve a four year term. The Chairman is appointed by the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Womens’s Clubs Board of Directors to serve for the two years of the administration.


Application Deadline: March 1, 2011 and 2012

OFWC Clubwoman Scholarship - Available ONLY to a member of a per capita club federated in the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs. It is for those who need additional education or training in order to join the work force or to help to provide for themselves and/or their families.

The Ethel G. Swanbeck Allied Health Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating high school senior pursuing a course of study in an Allied Health Field and enrolled at an accredited Ohio college or university. The student may use the scholarship for a degree as a nurse, pharmacist, X-ray technician, physical therapist, laboratory technician, pre-medical studies, pre-veterinary studies, etc. Applicants for this scholarship must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

The Elaine Weinman Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating high school senior pursuing a course of study in the field of Communication Arts at an accredited Ohio college, university or technical school. “Communication Arts” is defined as including speech, journalism, drama, radio and television. Applicants for this scholarship must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

The OFWC Art Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating high school senior enrolled at an accredited Ohio art school, college or university. Applicants for this scholarship must have a grade point average of 2.6 or better.

The Annette Phelps Lincoln Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating high school senior in the upper one-third of their graduating class. It is limited to the teaching and/or library professions at an accredited Ohio college or university.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLUB

  • A club may only sponsor ONE candidate per scholarship per year.
  • By March 1st, the sponsoring club should collect all required documents as listed in these instructions and mail the completed file in ONE envelope to the Chairman of the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs Scholarship Board of Trustees (see above listing).
  • Any applications postmarked later than March 1st will be disqualified.
  • Omission of any required materials will disqualify the applicant.
  • Please use proper form for the appropriate scholarship.
  • The club should make sure that the applicant as well as the club representative has signed the application.
