GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs
Art Scholarship

 

The GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women?s Clubs Art Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior enrolled in an accredited Ohio art school, college or university. Applicants for this scholarship must submit an original piece of art. Requirements for this are listed on the second page of these instructions.

 

Required Material for Application

 

From the Sponsoring Club:

  1. A letter from a club officer or club scholarship chairman giving the applicant's background stating specific proof of need (such as unusual financial obligations, loss of parental income, chronic illness, or disabilities within family), work experience and/or community service, etc.
  2. The complete packet of forms, records, letters, etc. from applicant, school and club to be mailed on or before MARCH 1 to the Chairman of the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs Board of Trustees as listed above.

 

From the High School:

  1. A letter of recommendation from the high school principal or representative.
  2. An official transcript of the applicant's grades, including senior grades, SAT or ACT scores, grade point average, class rank, class size. Grade point average must be 3.0 or better.

From the Applicant:

  1. Copy of letter of acceptance from an accredited Ohio college or university. technical or art school
  2. Letter establishing proof of financial need , including any financial aid applied for and being received.

Additional requirements for applicants for the Art Scholarship:

 

In addition to the materials listed above, the applicant must also submit an original piece of art which must be delivered to the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs Annual Convention Art Exhibit Room no later than 3:00 PM on the first day of the convention.

The applicant's name, address, phone number and the name of the sponsoring club and the contact person from that club should be securely attached to the back of the art work.

Applicants for the Art Scholarship must have a grade point average of 2.6 or better.

Guidelines for the art work are:

1.      Media: oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, pen and ink, pencil or charcoal.

2.      Size not to exceed 20" X 24".

3.      Frames: Oils, if framed must have simple frames, such as molding; other media should be matted. NO GLASS.

4.      NO REPRODUCTIONS. No portraits, cartoons or posters. Graphics, if entered, must be the original drawing or painting. Any entry that appears to be copied will be disqualified.

5.      Letter of recommendation from art teacher.

 

CLUB SPONSORS PLEASE NOTE:

All the applicant's paperwork, that is, school records letters of recommendation, statements proving financial need, letters from sponsoring club, completed application form and supplemental questionnaire should be submitted to the Scholarship Chairman by March 1. Receipt of this packet will serve as notice to the Board of Trustees that you will also submit the applicant's art work on the first day of the convention.

 

 

Carefully Follow These Directions

 

A club may sponsor one candidate per scholarship, per year.

 

By March 1, the sponsoring club should collect all required documents as listed in these instructions and mail the completed file in ONE envelope to the Chairman of the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs Scholarship Board of Trustees (Lin Wilken).

Any application postmarked later than March 1 will be disqualified.

 

Omission of any required materials will disqualify the applicant.

 

 

Notification of Winning Scholarship

 

Immediately following the OFWC Annual Convention, the Board of Trustees will notify those students receiving grants, their sponsoring club presidents, and the designated special correspondent. Checks will be mailed by the OFWC Treasurer no later than August 1 to those receiving grants. Check are made payable to the school of enrollment.
