Who is a leader? Are leaders born or made? Are you a leader? How are leadership skills nurtured in our state, district or club? Why can leadership roles be so difficult to fill?

 

Committee Objectives:

·         To build a strong communication network to support state, district and club leaders

·         To utilize GFWC leadership skill building workshops and resources

·         To develop in-state programs to train and nurture future leaders

·         To encourage attendance and participation at Federation meetings

 

Clubs’ Action Plan

·         Appoint a leadership chairman and add leadership to your budget to offset expenses for members to attend Federation meetings and conventions

·         Develop individual Club Procedure Books include:

v   Club’s bylaws, important contacts, job descriptions for offices and chairmanships, a timeline, major fundraisers, how money is handled, etc.

·         Develop individual club project report forms include:

v      Budget, expenses, profit, monetary and in kind donations, who served as chairman and committee, how many people attended, volunteers, hours, contact information, quantities of items needed for event, what worked well, suggestions for improvements, etc.

·         Develop programs to encourage, train and nurture future leaders include:

                    v   A list of various types of leadership possibilities and have members shadow for a year to learn positions.  (Example:  committee chairman, co-chairman, mentor to a new club member, community service program chairman, etc.)

   v   Plans for successful transitions from one administration to another

·         Run effective and relevant meetings; use an agenda, time presenters, etc.

·         Encourage clubwoman to participate in the Clubwoman Essay “Leading the Way”

2010-2012 CLUBWOMAN ESSAY CONTEST

 

“Leading the Way”

 

This contest is open to ALL GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs per capita members and is limited to one (1) entry per year per member.  The essay winner of the previous year is not eligible to win the award, but may submit an essay.  Contestants may not re-submit the same essay the second year of the contest and the topic of the second year essay must be from a different aspect of the theme.

 

What does it take to be a good leader?  What have you learned from a great leader?  Why are leadership skills important?….these are just a few ideas that could make a great essay. 

 

THEME:  “Leading the Way”

 

LENGTH:  The essay shall be no less than 400 words and no more than 800 words.  Articles such as “a”, “an”, and “the” will not be counted.

 

FORM:  The essay shall be typed or word-processed double-spaced on one side of 8-1/2 x 11 inch paper with a cover page.  If computer generated use Times New Roman size 12 font or pica if typewritten.

  7. Year essay submitted

 

DEADLINE:  All essays are to be postmarked no later than February 1, 2011 and 2012.

 

JUDGING:  Essays shall be judged at the state level by a panel of two or more people.  The decisions of the judges are final.

 

JUDGING CRITERIA:

  1. Content – 65%
  2. Composition (grammar, construction) – 20%
  3. Following Instructions – 15%
