Message from the Director of Junior Clubs
Sherry McClellan

To borrow from Susan Rebhan’s 2000 - 2002 Junior theme, so far, I’ve found much “joy in my journey” as the 2006-2008 OFWC Director of Junior Clubs. And many journeys I’ve had. In May, we traveled to Perrysville for the State Planning Meeting at the VFW Post where department and committee chairmen planned the many exciting programs and projects Ohio clubwomen will be participating in during this administration. In conjunction with this meeting, the OFWC Board of Directors met for the weekend in a cabin at the Mohican Memorial State Forest. The weekend culminated in an OFWC sponsored Armed Forces Day ceremony at the nearby memorial Forest Shrine. This was my first visit to the Shrine, and I was in awe. What a beautiful and peaceful place to honor Ohio service members who have given their lives in service to our country. I urge you to join your fellow clubwomen and visit the Shrine on September 24 to participate in the Gold Star Mothers Pilgrimage. OFWC is currently raising funds for creation of a Memorial Walkway at the Shrine. Clubs and individual members can participate in this project by purchasing an engraved brick or pavers which will be used to create the walkway. Clubs will earn extra points on the Junior Scorecard for participation.

In June, I attended the GFWC Convention in Denver. With the exception of having an adverse reaction to the Rocky Mountain High altitude, it was an exciting time. As impressive as the installation ceremony was for GFWC 2006-2008 President, Jacquelyn Pierce, Director of Junior Clubs, Jeri Lyn Cancel, and the other GFWC officers, the highlight for me was the awesome performance of our own Harriett Jackson who performed at the special request of the new president. I kept telling everyone, “She’s ours!” Congratulations to Ohio Juniors who were recognized with GFWC Awards. Susan Rebhan’s photo of a winter forest scene was one of the twelve winners in the A Year in Pictures Calendar Photo Contest and will appear in the GFWC calendar as the February picture. First place award for Public Relations Publicity Book contest went to Warren Junior Women’s League/GFWC. Corky Nosek was recognized with a State Director of Junior Clubs Award for excellence in reporting. Way to go ladies!

Coming up in September, is the GFWC Board Meeting in Washington, D. C., and the Fall Conference Tour. In October, I’ll be traveling to Green Bay, Wisconsin, for the Great Lakes Regional Conference. Last year, I had the opportunity to accompany the President, Director, and President-Elect on the Fall Tour. It was my first time attending district meetings other than my own. It was a very enriching experience and I look forward to doing it again. It’s one of the favorite parts of my job.

Looking forward to seeing you in your districts, at the Memorial Shrine in September, and in Green Bay in October.
