Arts in the Community Objective

The Clubwomen of Ohio will enhance the quality of life in their communities by fostering the arts.

DEPARTMENT GOALS

  • Promote quality art programs for children and adults with disabilities.
  • Provide an evening of art experiences for children and adults with disabilities.
  • Inform members and educators of VSA Programs.  Visit www.VSArts.org.
  • Encourage community support of local theatre groups by volunteering, donating funds, and attending performances.
  • Contact your local Art Gallery for information on programs available, and offer volunteer services.
  • Showcase artistic talents of club members and students at club meetings.
  • Promote March as Youth Art Month in your community with Youth Art Shows and Proclamations.
  • Donate art supplies and musical instruments to local schools in need.
  • Support art shows depicting the work done by local women artists.
  •  Encourage local business establishments to display student artwork.
  • Provide opportunities for children to attend dance or theatre performances.
  • Have a program with performances by local student vocal, instrumental or theatrical groups.

 

AWARDS

A Community Star Award will be given to the club with the best Arts in the Community Project involving children and adults with disabilities, as judged based on the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs Annual Report Narrative.  This Award will be given at GFWC/Ohio Federation Convention in April 2009 and April 2010.

Submission Deadline for Ornament Contests:

1 hour prior to Opening Session - April 25, 2009 and April 24, 2010

(Refer to Call to Convention in Spring 2009 and Spring 2010)

 

A GFWC/Ohio certificate for First, Second and Third place winners in each category will be awarded in April 2009 and April 2010.

 

Ornaments will not be returned, we will collect them from both years to decorate a

tree for each category and auction them at the 2010 Convention.

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTESTS

 

Great States Update

N E W  C O N T E S T

This Contest is ONLY offered for the 2009 Annual Convention

Guidelines:    

Photographers must be dues paying members of an Active GFWC club

Photo should represent the State of Ohio

                Horizontal photo no larger than 20 x 18 (including frame, matte & glass)*

Photo should be in color and may originate from digital format, if desired.

                No visible date stamp on photograph

 

*Members need to take into account the dimensions of the framed picture.  However, the photograph entered in April 2009 only needs to be matted.  GFWC/Ohio Federation will provide the funds to have the winning photograph framed with glass and the Arts Department Photography chairman will submit the photograph to GFWC Headquarters by the designated deadline date.   

 

Entry to be received no later than 1 hour prior to opening session of the April 2009 GFWC/Ohio Federation annual conference

 

Judging: Consideration will be given on how well the photo represents the state and judged on the artistic merits of

                  the photograph.

 

State Awards: State certificates will be awarded to the First, Second and Third place winners.

                                 

Winning Photograph

1) is to be framed and matted with glass (20” x 18”);

2) will be submitted to GFWC Program Department by March 31, 2010;

3) will represent the state and be displayed at GFWC Headquarters; and

4) will be exhibited at the 2010 GFWC International Convention.

 

No GFWC awards will be given and the photographs will not be returned.  By submitting your photo to GFWC, you are providing GFWC with a royalty-free perpetual license to use, reproduce, post, display, create derivative works, sell, license, or sub-license the work in any media now known or later invented without limitations, for commercial or non-commercial purposes.

 

 

 “The World in Pictures” and “Volunteers in Action

Guidelines:          

Photographers must be dues-paying members of an Active GFWC club.

Entries may be black and white or color photos

Size of entry (including matting) must be at least 10 x 12 inches but no larger than 14 x 16 inches.

All others will be disqualified.  No frames or glass. Entries must be matted securely.

The back of each photo must have an arrow drawn indicating the top.

Photos must be taken during the contest year (example: Jan-Dec 2008 for 2009 contest; Jan-Dec 2009 for 2010

contest)

Contestants must be amateur photographers with earnings not exceeding $500 annually.

Each photo must have the following information on the back:  GFWC category name; photographer’s name,

E-mail address, mailing address and phone number; name and state of sponsoring club; brief caption giving

location and other notes about the photo; and, photo title.

Photos may be taken using film or digital cameras. 

Date stamps should not appear on photographs.

Digital photos cannot be submitted by e-mail.

The same image may be submitted to multiple photo contests, but separate photos must be entered into each  

contest.

Photos will not be returned

By submitting your photo to GFWC, you are providing GFWC with a royalty-free perpetual license to use,

reproduce, post, display, create derivative works, sell, license, or sub-license the work in any media now known

For “The World in Pictures”

Categories:   Natural History (suggested subject:  flowers, animals, insects,   birds, trees, and similar natural

                        scenes)

Scenic (suggested subject: vistas, landscapes, seascapes, snow scenes, bridges, parks, mountains, farm land)

Feature (suggested subject: human interest pictures, including people, events and other features)

 

For “Volunteers in Action

       Photograph will be judged on overall creativity of subject and photo quality

 

Special Reminders

~To be considered for judging, photography entries must be submitted to a GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs Arts Department chairman (E. Carol, Esther or Debbie).

~Club member must identify category entered.

~Esther, E. Carol or Debbie will place the photograph on the appropriate table.

~Members may submit one photograph per general category.

~All matting must be securely attached and the proper Release form submitted.

 

State Awards: State certificates will be awarded to the First, Second and Third place winners in each contest.

 

“A Year in Pictures” Calendar Contest

(Not judged at State level)

Guidelines: 

Photographers must be dues-paying members of an Active GFWC club.

All entries (flowers and fauna, vistas, and more) will be considered.

Judges will look for photos particularly suitable for calendars, such as photos relevant to particular months or seasons.

Photos must be horizontal.

Entries must be color prints.

Size of entry (including matting) must be at least 10 x 12 inches but no larger than 14 x 16 inches.  All others will be disqualified.  No frames or glass. Entries must be matted securely.

The back of each photo must have an arrow drawn indicating the top.

Each photo must have the following information on the back:   GFWC category name; photographer’s name,

 e-mail address, mailing address and phone number; name and state of sponsoring club; brief caption giving location and other notes about the photo; and, photo title.

 

Photos must be taken during the contest year (example: Jan-Dec 2008 for 2009 contest;

Each GFWC club may submit one photo to GFWC Headquarters by

May 1, 2009 and May 1, 2010

to our annual convention in April 2009 and April 2010

 

* * *SILENT AUCTION – ARTS, CRAFTS AND GIFT BASKETS* * *

To promote artistic expression and creativity of all GFWC/Ohio members and to enable members to contribute a handmade/created item (or items) or a themed basket/bag in order to help raise funds for a special cause (to be determined by the Board of Directors for 2009 and 2010).

 

All items will be accepted.  Each item will be assigned a number and a bidding sheet will be displayed alongside the item.  All GFWC/Ohio members are invited to bid during the first and second day of convention.  Bids will close at 6 o’clock PM the second day of convention.  Successful bidders will be announced at the Saturday evening banquet and invited to pay for and pick up their items immediately following the Saturday night banquet.   Cash or check (payable to GFWC/Ohio Federation) accepted.

 

Awards:   A GFWC/Ohio certificate for the item receiving the Most Bids and for the item selling for the Highest Dollar will be presented during the Sunday morning session in April 2009 and April 2010.

 

Suggestion:  Invite your club’s Federated Committees (Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs & Public Affairs) to work together.  Challenge each committee to submit an item or items for the auction.

 

A signed Release Form must accompany ALL contest entries.
