Objective

Through the Arts Community Service Program clubwomen create and contribute to arts education and activities in their communities, by participating in the arts and raising public consciousness and connecting their members and clubs with their communities.

 

PROGRAM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

 

GOAL 1.  Create and contribute to arts education and activities in their communities.

GOAL 2. Engage club members in developing and enjoying creative arts as a method of self-expression.

 

ACTION

  • Take yourself/club to a local gallery or museum to see the latest exhibit.
  • Promote quality art programs for children and adults with disabilities.
  • Encourage community support of local theatre groups by volunteering, donating funds, and attending performances.
  • Showcase artistic talents of club members and students at club meetings.
  • Promote: February as Library Lovers Month; March, as Youth Art Month, Council For Art Education; and National School Flag Competition month; April, as National Poetry Month; May, as National Photography Month; and October, is National Arts and the Humanities Month, and American for the Arts Month.
  • Promote local theatre programs, film festivals, school plays and concerts.
  • Sponsor ads in above mentioned events.
  • Establish and award scholarships in music, drama or art.
  • Donate tickets for young people to attend an event in your community.
  • Sponsor a concert or art program.
  • Sponsor an “Oldies” dance at a senior center.
  • Sponsor music and movement programs for young children.

Clubs are encouraged to continue working with the GFWC Resource Organizations from previous administrations, as they have longstanding national relationships with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (not only GFWC/ Ohio relationships).  The GFWC Resource Organizations include, but are not limited to, those listed in the GFWC 2010-2012 Manual.

 

 

 

 

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTESTS

 

“The World in Pictures” and “Volunteers in Action”

Guidelines:

 

1.       Entries my be black and white or color photos.

2.       Size of entry (including matting) must be at least  10 x 12 inches but no larger than 14 x 16 inches.

3.       All others will be disqualified.  No frames or glass.  Entries must be matted Securely.

4.       The back of each photo must have an arrow drawn indication the top.

5.       Photos must be taken during the contest year (example: Jan.-Dec. 2010 for 2011contest; Jan.-Dec. 2011 for 2012 contest.)

6.       Contestants must be amateur photographers with earnings not exceeding $500 annually.

7.       Each photo must have the following information of the back; GFWC category name; photographer’s name, E-mail address, mailing address and phone number, name and state of sponsoring club; brief caption giving location and other notes about the photo; and photo title.

8.       Photos may be taken using film or digital cameras.

9.       Date stamps should not appear on photographs.

10.    Digital photos cannot be submitted by E-mail.

11.    The same image may be submitted to multiple photo contests, but separate

12.    Photos must be must be submitted into each contest.

13.    Photos will not be returned.

14.    By submitting your photo to GFWC, you are providing GFWC with a royalty-free perpetual license to use, reproduce, post, display, create derivative works, sell, license, or sub-license the work in any media now known or later invented without imitations, for commercial or non-commercial purposes.

15.    The photo must have a completed copy of the GFWC Release Form on the back.

 

Additional Guidelines

For “The World in Pictures”

Categories;   Natural History (suggested subject: flowers, animals, insects, birds, trees, and similar natural scenes)

                       Scenic (suggested subject: vistas, landscapes, seascapes, snow scenes, bridges, parks, mountains, farm land)

                       Feature  (suggested subject: human interest pictures, including people, events, and other features)

 

     Photograph will be judged on overall creativity of subject and photo quality.    

 

Special Reminders

~To be considered for judging, photography entries must be submitted to a GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs Arts Dept. Chairman (Jeannie, Esther or Debbie)

~Club member must identify category entered.

~Jeannie, Esther or Debbie will place the photograph on the appropriate table.

~Members may submit one photograph per general category.

~All matting must be securely attached and the proper Release forms submitted.

 

State Awards: State certificates will be awarded to the First, Second and Third place winners in each contest.

“A Year in Pictures” Calendar Contest

(Not judged on State Level)

Guidelines:

1.       Photographers must be dues-paying members of an Active GFWC club.

2.       All entries (flowers and fauna, vistas, and more) will be considered.

3.       Judges will look for photos particularly suitable for calendars, such as photos relevant to particular months or seasons.      

4.       Photos must be horizontal.

5.       Photos must be color prints.

6.       Size of entry (including matting) must be at least  10 x 12 inches but no larger than 14 x 16 inches.  All others will be disqualified. 

7.       No frames of glass. 

8.       Entries must be matted securely.

9.       The back of each photo must have an arrow drawn indicating the top.

10.    Each photo must have the following information on the back: GFWC category name, photographer’s name, e-mail address, mailing address and phone number, name and state of sponsoring club, brief caption giving location and other notes about the photo, and photo title.

Bookmark Creation

Create a Bookmark: (No restriction on Materials but remember it has to fit flat in a book).  The largest it may be is 6 x 3 inches.

1)Humorous            2) Beautiful          3) Colorful          4) Serious

 

Submission Deadline for Bookmark Contest:

1 Hour prior to Opening Session (Friday) of April 2011 and 2012 Conventions

(Refer to Call to Convention in Spring 2011 and 2012)

 

A GFWC/Ohio certificate for First, Second, and Third place winners in each category will be awarded in April 2011 and 2012.

 

 

 

 

*****SILENT AUCTION – ARTS, CRAFTS, AND GIFT BASKETS*****

To promote artistic expression and creativity of all GFWC/Ohio members and to enable members to contribute a handmade/created item (or items) or a themed basket/bag in order to help raise funds for a special cause (to be determined by the Board of Directors or 2011 and 2012.

 

All items will be accepted. 

Each item will be assigned a number and a bidding sheet will be displayed alongside the item.  All GFWC/Ohio members are invited to bid during the first and second days of the convention.  Bids will close at 6 o’clock the second day of the convention.  Successful bidders will be announced at the Saturday evening banquet and invited to pay for and pick up their items immediately following the Saturday night banquet.  Cash or check (payable to GFWC/Ohio Federation) accepted.

Awards: A GFWC/Ohio certificate for the item receiving the Most Bids and for the item selling for the Highest Dollar Amount will be presented during the Sunday morning session in April 2011 and April 2012.

 

Suggestion: Invite your club’s committees to work together.  Challenge each committee to submit an item or items for the auction.

A signed Release Form must accompany ALL CONTEST ENTRIES.
